Awkward Keyword Usage
Keyword research is a very big part of creating content and getting quality traffic to that content. The point of keyword research is to find terms that are highly searched. Once you find these “jackpot” or “excellent” keywords, you will be disappointed when you realize that the keyword(s) is not grammatically correct. The phrase is generally unnatural and may be very difficult, and probably not at all possible, to have it make sense in a sentence.
If you do try and use the keyword, the reader will probably have difficulty reading the article. As they read, they will stumble again and yet again on that same keyword in your article. The reader may stop reading and click to another site; this is something you don’t want them to do.
So how can you correct this? No, you don’t have to begin your keyword research all over. There are some tricks that you can do to make the funky but awesome keyword work. You can make use of certain grammatical formatting techniques to include that odd and unnatural wording in your article and you won’t get dinged for it.
Techniques such as using punctuation, line or paragraph breaks can be used. Keep in mind that the search engines only read the words, not that you were able to manipulate the odd wording to make them readable. You could squeeze the odd keyword into the article near the end but it can still make the article unworthy of your reader’s time and the search engines could ding you and you won’t make it to page one.
So let’s review a keyword that isn’t quite perfect and make it work. For this example, we are going to use this imaginary keyword ‘pastry cook prep’. It would be difficult for someone to read this term in a sentence like this one: Are you a good pastry cook prep? Now take a look at the following sentences: Are you a natural pastry cook? Prep work for pastries can be a challenge but it’s easier than you might think.
See, it’s all in how the term is manipulated into the sentence(s) along with proper punctuation and formatting for the keyword to make sense and your article gets credit for that keyword! It just takes a little thought and you can have a quality article with excellent keywords.
